Reduce Implementation with cloud network architecture times

The tip of the iceberg!

When users think about new technologies there’s often a groan.  Implementing new technology means change for the end users of the technology.  Change that goes along with new technology includes system down time, new training and learning curved.  Not to mention the expectation of management that even with a new system nobody knows, productivity levels must be maintained.  This is tough for the end user, but this is only the tip of the iceberg.

Technical changes require months of planning.  Then 6 to 18 months of implementation and testing are not unusual for an average technology implementation.  One banking system I worked on took two years and 95% of the bank’s capex spending to complete.  We had 5 test environments, over 1000 servers and 100’s of developers focused on the application. In addition we had several dozen developers focused on the security systems protecting the customer logons and information that protected each customers banking information.  We worked with some of the first enterprise level testing teams focused in India.  We built some of the first virtual server environments for further testing of the software.   During our production implementations we had over 1 million users accessing our production systems each minute.   It was exciting, draining and very successful.

To implement technology in smaller organizations may not require years, but can easily take 6 to 12 months for an average implementation.  In the cloud, the same system migrations can occur with only weeks of planning and over a weekend.  This is because the infrastructure is already built.  Including the security, redundancy, backup and recovery plans, site fail overs, data storage and all the details have been worked out.  Convert the server to a virtual machine and load it up to the cloud.  SaaS (software as a service) applications are even faster to migrate to.

The secret is that the infrastructure is already setup and waiting.  There’s no need to plan for hardware, software, storage, security because it’s already been done.  All that’s left is customizing the application to the business needs.

Planning is reduced because the supporting infrastructure is done.  The application is loaded and ready to go.  The trial period waiting for the migration is completed.   Time is reduced because the customization takes almost no time in a stable system.  Implementation time is reduced to weeks or days.  Capex spending is no longer required.  Reliability is guaranteed at 99%.  The 3 – 5 year cost of owner is usually less than doing it yourself.
